How to Get a Refund From Google Adwords

You can get a refund from Google Adwords, but they don't make it easy to find the screen where you do it.

Many people are not aware of the fact that you can get a refund from Google Adwords for any money left in your account which hasn't been spent.

It requires cancelling your account, and then on the screen after that, it lets you request a refund for any money left in your account.

I didn't find this information easily, and there is nowhere on your Google Adwords dashboard which tells you that you can get a refund, until you get past the screen where you permanently cancel your account.

I only got the information after repeatedly emailing the Google Adwords support team, saying that I couldn't afford to lose the $30 that I put in my account.

My account was permanently suspended the same day I set it up, and I didn't get a chance to advertise anything, as they didn't like the site I was trying to advertise. Something about get rich quick scheme, which it wasn't, and it was a free to join site. Anyway, here's the instructions on how to get a refund from Google Adwords.

Instructions on how to get Your Refund From Google Adwords

These were the instructions that I was sent in an email from Google Adwords, and they seem to be different from the instructions given in the help topics on the site.

They may only work with a pre-paid account, or they may work with an automatically paid Google Adwords account as well, but I don't want to say anything wrong about it, because once you cancel your account, it's permanently gone.

If you have a lot of money in your account, and you're not sure about the refund process, get in contact with the Google Adwords support team.

Quoted from an email from Google Adwords:

1. Sign in to your AdWords account at .

2. Click the My Account tab at the top of the page and select Preferences.

3. Find the Account cancellation section. Click the link reading Cancel this account.

4. On the following page, when you're ready to cancel, click Cancel my account and request a refund of the remaining balance.

There only seems to be one way to access the screen where you can request a refund, and it doesn't tell you on the screen before that you will be eligible to get a refund if you cancel your account.

I imagine there is still a lot of money sitting in Google Adwords accounts that have been permanently disabled, or paused because the campaign wasn't successful, and the vast majority of those people don't even know that they can get a refund.

My assumption is there is exceptions. I got $100 on sign-up through Hostgator. So I assume I won't get that refunded.

No, they don't refund vouchers. I never knew that a refund was possible at all, until I had my account permanently suspended for advertising a referral link that I had successfully advertised before. I would have got one cent clicks too.

Well I'm glad you did get your money back. And it's a good idea for an article. I have a Google-related article under review. So look for that. Might be up there with your Google Search articles. Well I'm hopeful at least.

Thanks for this informative post, Rowan.
